How to Use This App

  • Set target dimensions, choose padding or cropping, and select a padding background if resizing is enabled.
  • Select JPG, PNG, or WebP output and adjust quality for JPG or WebP if format conversion is enabled.

Choosing Between Contain and Cover

Contain preserves the entire image and adds padding wherever its proportions differ from the target dimensions. Cover fills the target dimensions by cropping content that falls outside the frame. Check the preview carefully when faces, text, or drawing outlines sit near the edges.

Understanding Background Cleanup

Background cleanup samples brightness near the image borders and adjusts pixel values across the image. It works best with pale backgrounds and darker artwork. It does not isolate subjects or create transparent backgrounds.

  • Use Clean White for a lighter background with gentler changes to darker details.
  • Use Crisp Black & White for stronger contrast, but check faint lines and light colours before downloading.
  • Disable cleanup when converting photographs or images whose original colours should be preserved.

Choosing an Export Format

  • PNG: Useful for line art, text, and images that need transparency preserved.
  • JPG: Useful for photographs. Transparent areas are flattened onto white during export.
  • WebP: Supports transparency and adjustable export quality.

Lower JPG or WebP quality can reduce file size while introducing visible compression. Increasing image dimensions does not restore missing detail, so inspect enlarged results before using them for print.

Does background cleanup remove the background or make it transparent?
